Tullamarine best airport in Australia/Pacific

I think when many people complain they’re talking about the hike from the lounges in T1 to the JQ gates. That is a hike.
But that will be irrelevant when the QF ‘shiney coughs’ get JQ pax booted from their precious QF Lounges will it not?

The "hike" in T4 that everyone complains about is not that long

What makes it feel long is that it is one straight narrow barren corridor. No shops, artwork, styling or anything to break up the scenery.

Apart from photos along the wall and windows that give tarmac views.

The new T1 is shaping up to be mighty fancy, doesn’t look too far off now (the main part at least).

As a side note here: does anyone have any idea what the latest short and long term car parking fees are at MEL? Tossing up between QF valet parking and that multistorey carpark.

Good stuff. Are they installing an escalator for those annoying steps from the high-numbered gates pier to the east up to the 'main' level (ie with the food outlets /inwards security/lounge escalator)? Never, never understood why you'd have a flight of steps in the middle of an airport.

Just click on “Book parking online”, enter your entry and exit dates and times, and it’ll tell you how much the various car parks will cost.

I generally use the long-term (“Value”) car park @ $12 per 24 hours.

Wow. HBA long term charges $52 for 30mins to 2 days; 'Saver' is $26 for 24 hrs. All in the open, up to 550m from the terminal.

And if you book the Value carpark online, and it’s full when you drive up (which it almost always is on long weekends and during school holidays), they’ll upgrade you to the Terminal carpark for free.

Sounds like one advantage HBA has over MEL is the distance to the terminal. At MEL, unless you're parked in the "A" or "B" sections of the long-term carpark and/or you don't have much luggage, you generally need to catch the free shuttle bus (it comes every 5 mins or so).

I emerged from the terminal once to see a long queue at the bus stop, and for once it wasn't raining in Melbourne, so I walked to my car which was in the "F" section. It took me 25 minutes.

Offish topic. Think there is/was a thread on MEL parking

Depending on how many days parking off site and then a free mini bus to the terminal can be better value. And far less walking to the terminal.

I'd prefer a shuttle! The +500m is uncovered, uneven and subject to the charms of Hobart winter weather. A single carry on is hard enough too drag along - a checked bag in addition is a really tough ask.

Maybe you need to train a bit harder as to where to park in LTCP - it ain’t complicated - the closer to terminal the shorter the walk 👍

Well, great coffee but just realised that I can't buy a pair of socks anymore in T1...

Their criteria for a good airport may be different to ours.
