My colleague has a CBR-BNE flight with VA connecting to a separately booked SQ itinerary departing from BNE International.

When checking in luggage at CBR if asked will the VA agent check the bags onto SQ?

From past posts, VA generally doesn't through-check on separate bookings, even on partners.

You'll be required to collect your bags in BNE Domestic and take them with you to BNE International to re-check in.

They can but there is zero benefit to doing so on a international flight connecting to Australian domestic.

This is because you need to clear customs and immigration In BNE
