Which whizz-bangery are you using to make your flying better?

@TonyHancock just make sure the USB-C output provides enough power. I got one that gives 45W

It took some tracking down but the charger in the image is 61W.

This is my current personal travel PC. I added a 400GB micro SD card and replaced windows with Ubuntu. (This isn't my pic but gives a good idea of size.)

At a cursory glance, it appears there are a few USB-C hubs that offer power supply and data exchange in one. If a hub has additional USB ports, display output and network adapter and of course enough power supply, you've effectively replicated the Surface Dock, but in a more portable format. No wonder Microsoft have begrudgingly released this!

I'll just wait for the Chinese knockoffs, same functionality at a fraction of the cost!

Seems like the originally suppplied power cable will be just as portable.

I am sure you can get equivalent exactly, but I wanted the slightly different connection options.

Both just use the original USB-C power source. Haven't tried daisy chaining them.....

There are now quite a few USB-C hubs. The trouble is I wanted one that had 2x USB-C outlets. I found a ALogic hub with 2x USB-C and 2x USB 3.1 outlets amongst others.

What do you do to make your trips easier/more tolerable?

"Loaded" iPad (ie: preloaded with TV, Movies, ebooks etc)
Noise Cancelling Headphones
2x universal chargers
Suica card (if going to Japan)
All chargers and cables go in an A5 sized drawstring bag.
iPhone loaded with apps such as:

• Tripit Pro
• HHonors
• Seatguru
• FR24
• Qantas
• AA
• Uber
• Tripadvisor
• IHG
• AA
• Accor
• Various rail apps for Europe and Japan

What I don't take:
No laptop unless travelling for work
No dedicated camera

I'm pretty low tech compared to others here. Perhaps my biggest travel companion is TripIt. I'd be lost without that these days.
I've also got a surface book 2 (so laptop and tablet in one), a set of sennheisers and youtube music (aka the paid one).

Netflix is also quite nice, especially when you can download stuff for the plane.

I utilise most of the gadgets etc that have been mentioned but my favourite traveling partner is a self inflating 'Kyak' sushion. It rolls up easily and fits into a back pack or even a ladies large carry on bag. It is great for either the back on short flights and the bottom on longer flights. The beauty is that the compression can be adjusted when you start feeling soreness or numbness. Only about AU$60, i'm on my second one.
Also, I use an iPad to load movies, music amd books on, the great thins is that on flights with Wi-Fi it can be used to email etc.

Wow thats some neat little devices they have! Probably hasn't got the grunt power to run the tools I need so would be redundant for me to carry one of these around in addition to my laptop.

The spec is decent for the size, it has the same processor as the Surface Pro, 8GB of RAM and a 128gb SSD. i was googling "small pc" a few moths back and the GPD came up. i ordered it on ebay.

It is not bad but the screen is small. I have a Surface Pro for work but like to keep personal stuff separate.

Hmm..must keep it in mind when thinking of future devices. The screen does look small, these small laptops + large phones are all merging into one single form factor that'll serve both purposes.

Agreed on the small screen, not sure how you're able to write such erudite posts to AFF on that!

Some time ago I put all my cables, connectors, chargers etc. into a small case (A5 size) that I could just 'grab-n-go' so that I didn't have to look for things or 2nd-check i had everything. Even if it meant buying a 2nd watch charger, laptop charger, or extra cables etc. So I can just keep everything for travel in that 1 case. Has saved LOADS of time and mucking about with packing only to find something forgotten.
Over time my case has got a little too big, not as many cables needed, I'm looking to downsize it a bit. Or maybe not - I'm due to find a better universal 240v travel plug so that may take the space.

I have done a similar thing. I re-purposed a Royal Brunei Amenities Pack given to me by a friend. It's about the size of a pencil case but a little fatter, so fits chargers for phone, camera, tablet, kindle as well as an international adaptor and a Kinchrome pocket power bank and some earbuds etc. Best move I've made to ease that "have I packed everything?" stress.

Only do carry on and came across this in the late 80's, silk keeps you cool or keeps you warm. 2 short tees, 2 long sleeved tees, I each n b&w, 2 silk trackies dark colours. Can be worn on top or as under other clothes, 4 silk boxers total weight 420gsm handwash and dry overnight. Get a tailor in Bangkok to make them very quick n well priced. Though the best is a Timberland Summer weight "Out Doors Man" jacket, you can still get them in North America, 28 pockets two of which are on the back, zip across the shoulders like mini back packs. The most it's carried 16kg. My I hang you jacket Mr Alexander, the look on the face, priceless.

I just purchased some compression socks so next trip in Aug Thai J to ARN from BNE will be the test. My wife started selling DoTerra essential oils and I swear by a mixture she makes to keep the cold/flu away. Has worked for the last 8 months of many flights where I usually picked up some bug or another, but sniffle free so far.
My iPhone 8 does most of what I need with apps and movies and reading, and of course Beats NC hp's.
